There is no doubt that Uber is the fastest growing ride-share app and a prominent feature in many cities around the world. With this growth, there have been numerous safety issues reported in Uber cities.
Just this past February, an Uber driver was charged for killing and injuring numerous individuals in between picking up Uber passengers. Uber allegedly conducts background checks for their drivers, but many say this cursory background check is not sufficient for a common carrier type service.
With these safety issues and concerns mounting, Uber has been testing their own Emergency Hotline (not to take the place of 911). The Emergency Hotline is 800-353-UBER. If a representative determines the call is severe, they have the ability to transfer it to 911.
