Personal Injury Representation in Los Angeles
Akhavan Law Firm takes personal injury cases throughout California, including Los Angeles. We do not have an office in Los Angeles — matters from this area are handled by our Beverly Hills (main) office, and we work with you by phone, video and mail, or meet you at home or in the hospital when that is easier.
Our main office sits inside Los Angeles County, minutes from the city, so LA cases are the ones we handle most. What changes from one LA collision to the next is not the law but the paperwork: which of the county’s judicial districts the crash falls in, which police agency wrote the report, and whether a public entity was involved.
The consultation is free and there is no fee unless we win. Se habla español.
To be clear: this page describes an area we serve, not an office. Our address is 8570 Wilshire Blvd, Ste 210, Beverly Hills, CA 90211 and our number is (310) 694-8999.
What Applies to a Los Angeles Case
Where Injuries Happen in Los Angeles
Los Angeles is not one traffic problem but several. The corridors confirmed in the city’s own community plan analysis — the Harbor Freeway, the Santa Monica Freeway, the 105, and arterials such as Western, Vermont, Figueroa, Washington, Slauson, Florence and Century — carry a mix of commuter, commercial and local traffic through dense neighbourhoods where signalised intersections and long blocks between crossings do most of the damage.
The practical consequence for a claim is jurisdictional. A collision on a city street is documented by the LAPD; the same collision two hundred metres away on a freeway ramp is documented by the California Highway Patrol, and the city spans several CHP areas. Getting the right report from the right agency is the first step, and it is where self-represented claimants most often stall.
After an accident in Los Angeles: what to do
Call 911 and get a report
On city streets the LAPD responds; on the freeways it is the California Highway Patrol.
Get checked the same day
Neck, back and head injuries often surface later. A gap in treatment is the first thing an adjuster points to.
File the DMV SR-1 within 10 days
Required when anyone is hurt or property damage exceeds $1,000. We can prepare it for you.
Photograph everything
The vehicles, the street, the signals and your injuries. Get witness names and phone numbers.
Do not give a recorded statement
You are not required to give one to the other side’s insurer. Talk to a lawyer first.
Call us, 24/7
(310) 694-8999. We request the report, notify the insurers and handle the calls.
Representation Without a Local Office
Los Angeles cases are the bulk of our practice, and the Beverly Hills office is inside the county, so nothing about an LA matter is handled at a distance. What follows applies to any city we serve without a local office.
What we handle from here
Car, truck, motorcycle and rideshare collisions; pedestrians and cyclists struck on city streets; falls and unsafe conditions in stores, hotels, restaurants and parking structures; dog bites; and wrongful death claims. The full list is on our practice areas page.
The public-entity trap
Los Angeles has an unusual concentration of public defendants: Metro buses and rail, LADOT vehicles, city and county fleets, and roadway conditions maintained by the city, the county or Caltrans. When any of them is involved, a written government claim is generally due within about six months rather than two years. It is the single most common way a strong LA claim is lost, and it is why the first conversation matters more than the last.
How the work actually happens
We request the traffic collision report from whichever agency responded, canvass for camera footage before it is overwritten, preserve vehicles and physical evidence, identify every policy that could respond, and document injuries through your treating physicians. You are asked to participate at a handful of defined points; the rest is ours.

Akhavan law firm came recommended by a friend who had a good experience and I’m so glad because my experience turned out great as well. Got rear ended and hurt my neck pretty badly, they helped me get treatment and I didn’t have to pay anything. Just put my trust in Ed and his team to take care of everything and they got an insurance settlement that was more than expected. Ed went to bat for me and followed through. Highly recommend.Posted on Google![]()

About two years ago, I was in an accident that left me with a back injury, and I honestly didn’t know where to turn. Working with Ed completely changed my life for good. He truly fought hard for me every step of the way, listened to me, and made sure I always felt supported and understood. I never once felt like just another case — he really cared. I also want to give a huge thank you to Stephanye, who was my main point of contact throughout the whole process. She was so kind, patient, and always there when I had questions or just needed reassurance. She made such a big difference for me and I’m so grateful for her. I can’t say enough good things about Ed and Stephanye. They were there for me during one of the hardest times of my life, and because of them, things turned around for the better. I’m beyond thankful and would recommend them to anyone who needs people who will truly fight for you and be there for you.Verified by TrustindexTrustindex verified badge is the Universal Symbol of Trust. Questions About Los Angeles Cases
Do you have an office in Los Angeles?
No. Our closest office to Los Angeles is Beverly Hills (main), and our main office is at 8570 Wilshire Blvd, Ste 210, Beverly Hills. We accept cases from Los Angeles and throughout California, and we work by phone, video and mail or meet you where you are. If you would rather have a lawyer with an office in your own city, that is a reasonable preference and we will tell you so plainly.
Where would my case be heard if I live in Los Angeles?
It depends on where the collision happened, not on where you live. Los Angeles County Superior Court’s Local Rule 2.3 requires a bodily-injury or wrongful-death case to be filed in the judicial district where the incident arose. The city of Los Angeles spans several districts, so a crash downtown and a crash in the San Fernando Valley can end up in different courthouses. For incidents in the Central District, cases are assigned to Independent Calendar departments at the Stanley Mosk Courthouse, 111 N Hill St. Most cases settle without a trial, so the filing district matters less than the deadline.
Who takes the crash report in Los Angeles?
On city streets, Los Angeles Police Department, headquarters 100 W 1st St; collision reports are released through the Records and Identification Division. On the freeways, CHP Central Los Angeles Area, 777 W Washington Blvd. The city is large enough to span several CHP areas, including West Los Angeles (6300 Bristol Pkwy, Culver City) and West Valley (5825 De Soto Ave, Woodland Hills). Knowing which agency responded tells you where to request the report, and we can request it for you.
Does it matter that none of your lawyers sit in Los Angeles?
For the work that decides a case, rarely. Reports, medical records, evidence and negotiations with insurers are handled the same way remotely. Where physical presence does matter — depositions, mediations and hearings — we travel; you do not.
How long do I have to bring a claim?
Generally two years from the injury under Code of Civil Procedure section 335.1. If a city, county, transit agency or the state is responsible, a written claim is generally due within six months under Government Code section 911.2. That shorter deadline is the one most often missed.
What does it cost?
Nothing upfront. We work on a contingency fee, so we are paid only if we recover money for you. There is no hourly billing and no fee if we do not win, and the consultation is free.
Do you help Spanish-speaking clients?
Yes. Se habla español. Consultations, documents and case updates are handled in Spanish, and this page is also available in Spanish.
